![]() You literally have a “Balls†meter that fills as you brutally kill (and taunt) people, and once it’s full you release it in a hail of invulnerable, slow-motion bullets. It lets you know when you shoot someone in the knee or the groin. Even so, the combat here is much more visceral than in any GTA game. It’s like the hand of God—or a designer—is guiding your bullets. There’s something that feels slightly off about the controls, possibly due to an over-reliance on console-style auto-aiming. Gunplay isn’t a strength of GTA, nor is it of Scarface. The world of Scarface feels closer to True Crime, which isn’t a compliment. There’s no comparison between Scarface’s more realistic Miami and the pseudo-version from Vice City. Liberty City, Vice City, and the areas that make up San Andreas are packed full of places to go and things to see, and they are virtual wonderlands compared with the dull, flavorless worlds of Scarface. Though storylines serve the basic purpose of giving you a reason to play, the most important character in every Grand Theft Auto game is the city itself. So it’s back to the day-to-day grind of being a cocaine dealer in his quest to kill Sosa. He still has his leisure suits and a swanky car, but apparently didn’t put any money away for a rainy day. It starts where the movie ends, only instead of Tony Montana’s being gunned down by thugs in the most over-the-top shootout in movie history, he survives to rebuild his empire. The storyline in Scarface is wonderfully dumb. It’s a console port that is similar to Just Cause or Godfather, using many of the same conventions, like auto-aiming, save areas, and slightly dodgy controls ripped outta console land. Sierra’s Scarface: The World Is Yours follows a simple formula: You take on a series of missions that involve lots of shooting and driving. If you don't have a mouse with adjustable sensitivity, you may run into trouble, as the game was designed for mice with very low DPI and thus has very slow mouse movement on any kind of modern gaming mouse (unless you hit that button a few times).Considering the success of the Grand Theft Auto series, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see a number of games that clone its style of gameplay. Just in case you only have integrated graphics, you may have to turn down some of the particle effects (as is often the case with alpha transparency heavy PS2-ports from that era), but otherwise, it has low hardware requirements, of course. This game is from before single-use activation codes became standard, so a used PC copy should install just fine.ĭo note that you need this fan patch on PC in order for it to work at all on modern hardware: I recommend either the excellent Wii port if you want a console version (the PS2 version works, but runs at a resolution and frame rate that would make even Cyberpunk 2077 blush) or the best version, which is of course the PC port. Most licensing contracts are only for a few years or a limited number of copies, which is a shame with great games like this one. This is often the case with movie tie-ins like this one, but also games that contain copyrighted music, cars or brands. The game is not available anymore due to expired licenses. The developers get exactly the same amount of money as if you pirated it though, so unless piracy = stealing in your mind (even though you aren't taking anything away and are not depriving anyone of their income), it really doesn't matter. The only legal way is to buy a used copy.
